A Teachable Spirit...

We are well into 2021, we’ve listed our goals, wrote our vison and settled into going about accomplishing them as we prayerfully press through each new day, which is often referred to as our “new normal”. We’ve come a long way haven’t we! Our technical skills have significantly improved, our masks fashionably match our outfits, (that didn’t take long at all! LOL). We’ve unearthed skills & hobbies that were simply lying dormant within us, some we had forgotten due to negligence and others we never knew we had until a demand cropped up and pulled it out.
We may have gone through 2020 kicking against the pricks frustrated with the inconvenience of having to rethink just about every aspect of our day to day lives, while some of us may have sat down, strapped in, and told ourselves, “Look Sis, it is what it is, let’s get it!” No matter where you found yourself on that spectrum the end result was YOU DID IT! We met and walked into 2021 with our purpose filled goals, armed with our scriptures, phrases or a single word chosen to pivot us back to the motive behind each goal.
Oh, dear Sister I haven’t forgotten about the painful circumstances we could not change but had to manage nor have I forgotten about the death toll due to inequality & inequity, COVID and natural causes. We haven’t forgotten what came at us one after the other as waves, like fists pummeling on us leaving us bruised but not broken. As our brother Apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 NLT We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. This is worthy of repeating, read it aloud, listen, meditate on this, NEVER abandoned by God!
We’ve had to reassess what, where and who we assigned value to, which aided in creating and shaping our goals & the paths and processes we plan to take to attain them. If we’ve learned nothing else, we know regardless of the goal, we must have a Teachable Spirit to attain it. We’ve began to tap into establishing a teachable spirit, but we must delve much deeper to remain anchored in Abba. If you are capable of being taught; apt & willing to learn then according to merriamwebster.com you are the definition of teachable! We must exchange our pride for humility and begin to trust again to recover well and flourish in 2021. No matter what we see, hear or experience let us aim to remember the words of Jesus to Jairus the synagogue leader in Mark 5:36 MSG Don’t be afraid, just trust me.
The insignificant matters of daily life are the important tests of eternity because they prove what Spirit truly dwells within us – Andrew Murray.
Opportunities will arise throughout each day for us to choose to walk in a Teachable Spirit. Will we choose to exchange pride for humility, trust for fear, to recover well & flourish, just to know Him, to be intimate with Him? Jesus being the gentleman He is awaits our decision.
Come close to God and He will come close to you. [Recognize that you are] sinners, get your soiled hands clean; [realize that you have been disloyal] wavering individuals with divided interests, and purify your hearts [of your spiritual adultery] James 4:8 AMPC.
My prayer for you my beloved Sister: May you garner strength & fortitude by drawing nigh to God, nearer than you ever imagined possible. May you “lay hold on the promises of God & cling to them despite adversity” (-Jerry Bridges), in so doing, May God Be Greatly Glorified in our daily lives!
